Accepting recording
clients again in May
Reserve Time Now! Call 477-3883 for Bob
I haven't accepted any new
recording projects for a year, and have taken a much needed break (can you
blame me after three years of back to back recording projects?). I'm ready
to accept recording projects again. I''ve also added a lot of nice gear to
the studio, including about 40 new mics and a some very sweet preamps
(Manley, Neumann, Focusrite, Blue -- no junk here). I've also secured a
reliable source for new 1/2" tapes that have been stored properly, so we can
fire up the reel to reels along with the digital again. This is great news for drummers because we
can get a smooth saturation you won't find with a digital mix (we'll put our
drum tracks up against any studio).
Between the tape and digital gear,
we can record up to 30 tracks simultaneously, and unlimited tracks for the
project. This means you don't have to settle for 7 mics on your drums when
you really need 10, 16, or even 30, to get a good recording. You can also
record your whole band at once without short-cutting on the mics and
channels.
Do your vocal and drum tracks with us...
If you're working with another studio, or have a
home studio, that isn't equipped to record your drums and vocals
properly, we can do your tracks in any format. You can take your
tracks to your buddy's home studio and complete the project, knowing
your drums and vocals will sound their best.
After testing mics, preamps
and mic positions, we've made some important new discoveries that will make
every track on your recordings jump with life. It's not one mic fits all
around here, or even one mic position used over and over because that's what
a book said to do: it's the combination that works best for the track. So if
you see someone immediately put that Shure 57 at the edge of the speaker on
your Marshall amp, or at the edge of your snare pointing toward the middle
-- ask why? That's lazy, mechanical recording. The best way to record
the best sound is put the right mic in the right place that
sounds the best for your voice or instrument. Any other way is going
to give you a dull recording that only sounds good through cranked-up studio
monitors. We take a little longer to setup and adjust, but it shines in the
finished product.
No charge for setup time and reduced rates...
To back up what I'm saying, I
won't charge for setup time, and will reduce my rates from $75 an hour to
$40 an hour (included assistant) for all bookings through Dec. 20, 2009. I
want the word to get out that I'm back and there's a studio in Hampton Roads
that gets it right. Make an appointment to visit the studio and hear my
work. If you've got a demo, even if the recording is bad, or live, bring it
along. I like to know your sound and put some thought into it before
starting a project.
